Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use a professional landscape care service?
Creating and maintaining a lush, healthy landscape takes time, effort and knowledge. Many factors can affect the health of the lawn, but a weaker lawn is more susceptible to insect damage, drought and harsh weather conditions. LawnTech employs licensed application specialists that are highly trained, and are able to apply industrial strength treatments that will effectively and safely take care of your landscape issues. When you compare the cost of doing it yourself, a professional can save you time, money and frustration.
How often should I water?
You should always check with your local water utility first, but as a general rule, 3/4 inch to 1 inch of water, 2-3 times per week is recommended for most landscapes. Any rainfall that occurs between watering should be counted towards your watering schedule. If you have questions about your watering practices you can contact one of our arborist to help you determine the best plan for you.
Tip* One way to check to see how much your are watering by placing a tuna can on your lawn while you are watering. If your tuna can is full at the end of the cycle, you have watered enough. If not, you may want to adjust the timing on your watering.
Tip* A great way to make sure you are watering sufficiently is by pushing a long screw drier into your lawn. If the screwdriver penetrates with little to no effort your watering schedule is sufficient. If the screwdriver is difficult at all to insert into the lawn you should consider a different watering schedule. A LawnTech professional is always happy to assist you in determining the best watering schedule.
What is aeration and how can it benefit my lawn program?
Aeration removes plugs of soil from your lawn and allows oxygen, water and nutrients to flow freely into the root zone. Aeration reduces water runoff by opening up the soil to receive the water downward rather than letting it puddle onto sidewalks and driveways.
What can be done about all of these weeds my lawn?
Create a thick, healthy lawn through proper fertilization, mowing and watering practices. A healthy, well-maintained lawn keeps weeds from establishing and growing. The professionals at LawnTech offer customized programs that will create the thickest and healthiest lawn for your landscape. When necessary, we will use targeted treatments to help remove weeds.
Are all weeds treated the same, and how do you control them?
There are several types of weeds that are common to this area. The most common and often most visible is the dandelion. The dandelion should be controlled after one application, but it is wise to continually treat dandelions gain a lasting control. Clover and thistle can be controlled with three applications through out the summer. These types of weeds are more resiliant and need to be treated more agressivley. A LawnTech program is designed to keep all of these weeds under control, and maintain the appearance of a weed free lawn.
